Background and objectives of the client

In 2005, Headlight Consulting conducted a development study of hotel and serviced accommodation on behalf of the Urban Community district of Dunkirk. This assignment involved a high level of field work including visits and interviews of all hotel accommodation in the urban community. It resolved on the creation of a certain number of hotels and serviced accommodation in developing areas. More than four years later, the city of Dunkirk and its territory have changed significantly as have the economy and tourist activity. Many areas have emerged, others have been adjusted ... but above all new development areas have been identified for the coming years. Meanwhile, in terms of tourist accommodation offers, some of the projects recommended by Headlight have materialised while others are still being considered.

Our assignment

The town of Dunkirk wanted to carry out an assessment based on the hotel development plan from 2005. This assessment would be used to establish an overview of the evolution of tourist accommodation (hotels, campsites, holiday villages, group accommodation...) on offer.
The skills used in the context of this assignment are the following: Macroeconomic Analysis; Study of the offer, its evolution over the past years and future evolution, from visits / interviews of  the majority of hotel establishments; Statistical Analysis of supply and demand for tourist accommodation, surveys of current and potential customers such as businesses in the study area, a range of tour operators and coach companies; prospective analysis, recommendations for the development of the tourist accommodation offer in the study area, both on a quantity and a quality level, divided by type and site of implantation, with a provisional roadmap for the next 5 years.
