Background and objectives of the client

Known as the Comics Capital, the Urban Community of Grand Angoulême (COMAGA) decided three years ago, to become a "tourist destination in its own right."
The tourism landscape will be drastically altered in the short and medium term thanks to major development projects intended to increase the number of tourists and enhance the attractiveness of the town.
At the same time, business tourism has developed thanks to the density of its economy and the changing structures of conference / seminars.
However, even with these developments, the COMAGA only has a partial view of the hotel industry in the city. In addition, the COMAGA is aware that the hotel industry plays an important role in the development of tourism in the area.

Our assignment

We met all the hoteliers in the city, and carried out a visit / audit of each establishment. We completed our analysis with surveys on the demand side of: businesses in the city, tour operators, interested parties ... With extensive field work, we were able to develop a complete inventory of the hotel market in the city by conducting a parallel analysis of hotel markets nearby. A potentiality study enabled us to make 5-year recommendations, defining the concepts that are lacking, segmentation by category and geographic locations of choice. The COMAGA was therefore able to focus on the arrival of new hotels in the growth sectors and to measure their impact.
